Ohhh just capping off the night with a little RHONY…

Where’s my wine?!

And an unwich.  Mmmmmm. If you haven’t tried a Jimmy John’s Unwich, I would suggest doing so ASAP! I get the Beach Club (turkey, provolone, avocado, sprouts, lettuce, tomato) with no mayo. You eat it like a burrito, unwrapping the paper as you go.

Just a quick lil posty because my workout plans for the week have changed :( I forgot that Wednesdays are the only day of the week that my yoga studio in Madison has NO yoga classes at a normal time for me, a.k.a. within 8am and 5pm. Not a problem – here’s the NEW plan:
Tue (today!): I went to a Body Sculpt class with my momma at her gym in lieu of the Jillian DVD. Since no yogaing is happening tomorrow (WAH!), I’m putting off my run ’til then.
Wed: c25k 8.1 run
Thurs: possible A.M yoga in Madison if it works out for me to hit it up on my way home from a certain gurlfrand’s birthday celebrations :)
Fri:  c25k 8.2 run
Sat: c25k 8.3 run (possibly wait til Sun morning if I am sore!)
Sun: rest

I’m also planning on stopping at Whole Foods on Thursday on my way home – there are some recipes and foods I want to try out, so I will be sharing those soon! Night everyone!!

Wow – I was going to say Happy Monday, but it is definitely Tuesday. Holiday weekend haze! I woke up today with the worstttttt tummy ache. I knew my body was going to hate me after the beer and food fest of this weekend, and this morning was proof.
The good news is, I started the day off right. I made a goal to drink 10 glasses of water to help my bod detox – 3 down so far!
Lazy dog (that’s Ringo) and the ever-present candy dishes!!!

Then fueled up with a late breakfast/early lunch of turkey bacon and a veggie-egg breakfast burrito.
This particularly ambitious burrito had spinach, sweet red pepper, mushroom, zucchini and red onion, which I sautéed in canola oil before adding scrambled eggs to the pan. Then, I melted a little shredded cheese on top before I wrapped the whole dealy in a warm whole wheat tortilla with some salsa. Mmmmmmm. The turkey bacon was okay, too – this is probably my third time in my life trying the turkey-version and it’s definitely not a “real” bacon substitute, you have to like the flavor of turkey. Apologies for the sketchy Blackberry-powered photography – I feel like a weirdo taking food pics around my house and as a result have only these low-quality pics to share, and lost the snap of the finished product burrito :(
Eating veggies at breakfast is a tip I picked up from perusing the South Beach Diet books and cookbooks. Vegetables and breakfast don’t intuitively go hand-in-hand, but if you can pack a serving or two of veg in when you start your day, you are already ahead! Here are my favorite ways to get your veggies at breakfast:
  • Scrambled eggs or omelette with pretty much any veg. I like: mushrooms, spinach (probably my fave!), peppers, onion, broccoli, peas, asparagus, zucchini. Also try adding black beans, cheese, or chopped turkey for a protein boost.
  • Try a can of v8 with your morning meal, or juiced veggies if you are lucky enough to have a juicer (I am not!)
  • I have made egg bakes a few times, primarily from these recipes at Kalyn’s Kitchen. Include your favorite veggies in the recipe! The great thing about egg bakes is you can freeze some of it for later, and microwave what you have in the fridge for a quick-and-easy homecooked breakfast each morning.
  • Smoothies with veggies: I have only had this from smoothie-chain type restaurants, but I really want to try to make my own at home in the future. Some great recipes include A Veggie Venture’s Green Smoothies and the Fitnessista’s Green-a-colada

I’m off to finish the rest of my to-do’s today – a little work to be done and two workouts before relaxation time. I wanted to work out earlier, but the Midwest/Wisconsin has been having some wonky weather and I’m waiting for the storm-ish stuff to blow over around 4 before heading out to run.

How is getting back to business this week going for ya? What are your favorite breakfast foods?

Just like the links round-up, this post is a little late this week, too. Not much worth mentioning in terms of “healthy accomplishments” from this week – I am beered-out, burgers-and-brats-ed-out, baseballed-out, sunned-out and socialized-out. I seriously ate so much I don’t want to look at food anymore, and after my short motivational burst, I only ran that once. Healthy intentions fail.

The inconsistency is pretty reflective on my life in general right now… I had a SUPER fun weekend with the boyfriend and our families, but overall I am feeling off-balance. I am basically living at home until my June 22 Move Day… yeah, I’m already so excited to move it gets capital letters. I love being at home and having the luxury to be close enough to my family that we spend lots of time together, but I am really a creature that needs 1) My own space, organized MY WAY (selfish.) and 2) A set routine to build my days and weeks around. I have neither right now, since about 50% of my clothes are semi-permanently in my car until Move Day, and the rest of my belongings have been hodge-podged away in either Brandon’s apartment or the “guest room” I live in at home. I don’t have much of a schedule after recently graduating from college, and now I’m chillin’ at home and working my old bartending job until I get my life back in order… after Move Day.

There isn’t much to be done about my current living conditions – I don’t want to unpack my stuff completely, and I just don’t have much room to organize what is unpacked. I could go “live” at Brandon’s until we move together, but I’d have to give up the cash from the few bartending shifts I can pick up at my old workplace and I might as well be making the extra money. However, I *can* target my schedule issue. I think I’ve been struggling (especially on no-work days) because I sleep in, then think I have all day long to get things done without really targeting what it is I want to get done. This results in putting off working out, surfing the internet for hours, and usually ending up with nada for exercise, blogging or working! I don’t have much on my plate til Moving, but for the rest of the summer I need to prioritize the things that are important for me to get done now, while I have the time:

  • Blogging: hopefully every day!
  • Reading: often, until I finish the 6 books I want to read before starting work
  • Exercising: my 4 workouts (3 runs, 1 strength) that I need to reach my goals!
  • Moving: packing, moving smaller items, planning purchases… penciling these items in as needed/when possible
  • Working: in addition to my few bartending shifts, I also do some writing work where I dictate my own hours. No excuse to be slacking here.

I’m going to try to wake up at a more normal time, too. I can sleeeeeeeeeeeeeep… but unless I work a late shift, there’s no real need for it.

As Grace at Money Smart Fashion pointed out, it’s been 6 months since New Years Resolutions so it’s time for some new resolutions! My fitness goal this year was to begin working out in the morning – 3x cardio, 2x strength. I haven’t gotten the morning down, but was pretty consistent with the workout frequency until my current fitness meltdown. So – my updated “resolution” is to:
Make myself a schedule for each week, at the beginning of the week – both workouts and “personal” stuff (e.g. getting an oil change, work, etc.) – and stick to it. Then blog about it.
A schedule worked for me while school was going on so I hope it will work for me now.

My workout schedule this week
Tuesday: c25k 8.1 (week 8, run 1) and Jillian’s No Trouble Zones – no-work day = errands day
Wednesday:  yoga class in Madison – no-work day, planning on staying in Madison for some birthday celebrations :)
Thursday: c25k 8.2 – closing the bar
Friday: rest day! – closing the bar
Saturday: c25k 8.3 – no-work day, going to a wedding shower out-of-town in the evening!
Sunday: rest day! – closing the bar

Wish me luck – I will be checking in all week! How was everyone else’s holiday weekend? Are you ready to get back on the horse with me for a fresh start to the second half of 2011?!
